Meet Dr. Kass

Dr. Peter Kass attended Pomona College (Go Sagehens!), where he played varsity basketball and majored in Neuroscience. After obtaining his bachelor’s degree, Dr. Kass joined Teach For America and taught 3 years of high school science and coached varsity men’s basketball at Dr. Olga Mohan High School in downtown Los Angeles. Dr. Kass also received his Masters of Urban Education at Loyola Marymount University while teaching and coaching. While he loved working with students, Dr. Kass decided to attend medical school after three years in the classroom and enrolled at UC-San Diego School of Medicine. He completed his adult psychiatry training at UC-San Francisco, where he received rigorous training in psychiatric evaluation/treatment planning, medication management, individual talk therapy, and group therapy. In addition to his psychiatric education, Dr. Kass completed an additional two-year psychodynamic psychotherapy training program at the San Francisco Center For Psychoanalysis. Dr. Kass currently runs his private practice while completing additional child psychiatry training at UC San Diego and Rady Children’s Hospital. He enjoys discovering new coffee shops with his wife, running, and reading. Despite being retired from basketball, he remains active in the San Diego athletic community and is an active member of the International Society of Sports Psychiatry.
